Eccabin was created as a platform to shape a career out of designing beautiful things. I create bespoke and one-of-a-kind interior furnishings using appliqué techniques, quilting and tambour beading.
Behind every piece is a wealth of research and natural intuition. My creative process has been honed over a 20+ year career, a formidable depth of knowledge heavily influenced by my background as a print designer and trend forecaster in fashion.
Paying homage to my Northern mining roots, I’m exploring the historical ‘whole cloth quilt’ combined with what my grandma would call, ‘fancy work’
Rejecting traditional quilting motifs, I draw instead on the crafts experienced in my childhood living in Nigeria, Iran and India.
What fascinates me is how traditional craft can be adopted into a modern aesthetic without ever losing its cultural authority.
I believe that all material things that are hand-made tell a story and I'm excited by the migration of techniques and craftsmanship throughout time - how the trading of resources across cultural boundaries leaves it’s filament that you can trace back time and time again.
